Project Rationale

I then created a Pitch power point presentation in order to present briefly show the audience what the brief is, my opinions and thoughts on the brief. I then talk about my ideas and explain my final chosen idea by explaining what i want my documentary to be about and how i am going to present it such as what shots i will use, what codes and conventions i will use. This will help paint a picture to the audience on how this documentary will look like. The point of doing the pitch is to get my audiences opinion on the pitch to see if they like it or not or if they think there is anything i could add or change to my idea in order to make it look better. At the end of the day, if they don't like my idea then my audience wont like my documentary so its important to know if my target audience like it.

I first start the first 2 slides off by introducing to the audience who the client is and what the brief is and what we have been asked to do. This is so they know what i will be talking about and promoting in my pitch so they know what the client are asking me to do so that way they know if what im doing is good enough for the client and matches the brief. This will help later on so they can ask me questions on my idea if there is something wrong or inaccurate.

In the third slide, i explain the theme being "culture in the digital age" and how technology has impacted young people. I go on to talk about how i will express this theme within a 10-15 minute documentary. I share my initial ideas with my audience and my intital thoughts when i heard the brief. Because when i heard what the brief was, i had quite a few initial ideas on what i wanted my documentary to be about in order to present the theme of technology impacting young people. I talk about my ideas on how i might make my documentary on how technology positively impacted people during COVID as it helped people become more productive as the can still do work, i would then talk about the negatives of this as well. Another idea i had is how technology brought sports fans together by letting people communicate and socialise online bringing fans together and creating communities. My third idea for a documentary would be to show how the videogame technology has evolved over the years. This would show the positive effects of the videogames such as how it was years ago and compared to how much better it has improved in modern day. it would show the memories people create with videogames and how it impacts peoples lives. I would talk about how the technology has improved over the years and how it made videogames better.

In slide 4 i talk about my Final idea i have chosen which is how videogame technology has evolved over the years and how that affected young peoples lives. I then explain the codes and conventions i plan to use in this documentary in order to present this information in order to make this documentary entertaining to my audience and to make it look like a documentary. I want to use interviews to get peoples opinions on videogames to show another point of view and show someone elses point of view of what they think about the topic. This is to show the audience that i am not being biased in this documentary and that im not only being positive just because it is my documentary. I'm doing this to make it fair so theres multiple peoples opinions so it is believable. I want to include some statistics of things such as sales, numbers of people who buy the consoles and play the games. This is so there is some realistic factual information about what i am talking about so there is also some historical information about videogames. This will help make it more entertaining so it will help educate the audience and teach them information they may not of known before hand. I'm going to include some reenactments which basically will be footage of people playing videogames. this is to showcase different games so people can see a range of different games. This will help it be more entertaining as it relates back to what the documentary is about. These shots will be from different angles to showcase brief gameplay in order to show a few different videoagames. This will also help show how its advances by showing games on the older consoles and then comparing it to the newer consoles which are way better.

In slide 5 I talk about the background research i have done prior to making the documentary. I did this by looking into existing products so I could see some previous videogame documentaries and see what they include in them in order to make them entertaining and successful and grasp the audiences attention. I could then use these codes and conventions and other aspects they use in those documentaries in order to take inspiration, adapt it and make it into my own videogame documentary while meeting the clients requirements of showing how technology has effected young people. And i am showing this subject by talking about how the advancement of videogame technology has effected young people over the years.

In slide 6 I talk about what my target audience thought by taking some quotes from the focused group on what they saw they wanted to see in my videogame documentary. I explain what my audience want to see and i explain how i am going to adapt it and add it to my documentary. This will help entertain the audience as I am meeting their needs.

In slide 7 I start to close the pitch presentation by giving a recap on my plan for this brief and what i plan to do. I sum up how i am going to make a documentary about how the advancement of videogame technology has effected young people and that I am going to educate my audience on how better it has evolved in present day compared to what it use to be.

To finish off the Pitch, i ask if my audience have any questions about what i have present ed to them so far and i give some honest feedback.

Feedback

At the end of the pitch, my audience ask me some questions and I then reflect and respond appropriately on the thoughts questions and feedback that they give. The questions asked were:
Are you going to be talking on a positive or negative angle when talking about videogames?
I respond by saying how I am going to be talking about the positive impacts by talking about how the technology was back in the past the it first started out and then compare it to how better it is present day and show how the games and the technology at the time affected young people such as the positive memories we create with it and maybe to some the associate it with a positive point in their life.

You mentioned statistics, will it be positive and negative statistics?
I reply by saying how it will be mainly positive. This is because i want to spread a positive image and message in my documentary as i want young people to learn how technology can positively impact someones life. I will present this through the statistics by talking about things like sales figures, statistics of people who play and buy the games.
That way you can spot trends of what eras were most successful. This will be done to help educate the audience with some information which will help to keep it entertaining which will engage them to watch the full thing. also using statistics you can have factual evidence that video games were a positive success. This prevents the documentary from being biased and my own opinion. This will also show how the gaming industry has positively developed as since more people buy games it becomes more popular because the audience playing the games are more interested.

What are you going to be focusing on in the documentary?
I respond by saying how video games are getting better over the years as the technology advances. But also how this positively impacts peoples lives as the technology advances as people are blown away by what it can do.
Therefore this helps create a sense of nostalgia in years to come as people will relate back to the time when they had this big technology jump and the happy memories that they created because maybe it was at a positive point in their life so all of a sudden people link a positive part of their life with the video game they were playing at the same time.

What type of games will you feature in the documentary?
I respond by saying mainly Nintendo games since i have all the consoles. This is because since i have most of the consoles i can look at where it started and where it is now, and show how the technology has advanced over the years and then explain how that has affected young peoples lives. Not only talking about the game itself but the technology and how it helped the game be so great to them.
A big idea I had for this was the Nintendo Wii as back in the day it was really popular and part of it was how it was the first time motion controls were used with things like Wii sports being a big example which lots of people used at the time. It was a big mind blowing technology advancement back in the day as everybody was use to playing with a controller and pressing buttons. Another reason I'm including this is because loads of people in my age demographic grew up playing the Nintendo Wii as it was one of the best selling video game consoles so I know most people in my age demographic had that console so they will be able to personally relate to that experience.

For one last question I let my audience request for things they want to see?
they wanted to see multiplayer and solo games. This is something I may feature as it is 2 big demographics of games. 2 games that got requested were Super Mario Galaxy and Minecraft as well as The Legend of Zelda Breath Of The Wild. All are popular games which would grasp a lot of young peoples attention if they were to be included in the Documentary. I own all of those games so i am going to plan to include them in order to make it more interesting to my audience.
